HP Announces Open Source webOS 1.0 Operating System

HP successfully meet the schedule set out in January. HP yesterday officially launched open-source operating system Open webOS 1.0. There are two versions available, one for Linux and one desktop can be used in different types of devices through integration of OpenEmbedded.

This operating system is now complete and can be ported to other devices by developers and others in the open source community. In a video demonstration, HP Chief Architect Steve Winston shows Open webOS running on HP desktop computers.

webOS is a Linux-based mobile operating system previously developed by Palm for devices.
Palm later acquired by HP in 2010. This computer manufacturers had released several models of webOS-based devices such as the TouchPad tablets before deciding to stop manufacturing devices in 2011.
